Overview

With expertise and experience in the development of a wide range of medical products, BioQuest helps to commercialize technologies across all fields of medical sciences, including therapeutics, medical devices and diagnostics. However, we specifically target innovative, new medical technologies in the following areas:

  • Drugs in pre-clinical development
  • Medical devices at prototype development
  • Diagnostic tools in pre-clinical development

We focus on building value for both inventors and investors and have a strong track record of realizing exceptional returns for all of our stakeholders.

A summary of our current programs follows below. To find out more about our achievements, please see our track record.

Current Programs

BioQuest is currently managing seven separate technology programs.

One of our most advanced drug development programs, Neutropel, is a short-chain peptide that is currently being investigated as a therapeutic for asthma and spinal cord injury.  This program is being managed for AIM Therapeutics Inc., a private Toronto-based biotechnology company that we founded in 2005.  This promising technology was originally developed by experts in the field of inflammatory disorders at the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary for Salpep Biotechnology Inc.  Salpep merged with AtheroMedix Inc. in early 2007 to form AIM Therapeutics.

BioQuest is working closely with AIM Therapeutics' management to design and manage the pre-clinical development program, including identification, selection and negotiation of contracts with consultants, CROs and CMOs with the following objectives:

  • Designing and executing a full pre-clinical trial program
  • Developing a manufacturing process and scaling up to produce GMP product in quantities sufficient for pre-clinical studies
  • Performing acute and chronic toxicology studies

In addition, BioQuest has been charged with managing the patent portfolio with the goal of capturing the maximum possible value from the compounds.

The technology is being validated in both indications, and full manufacturing and pre-clinical toxicology studies began in the second half of 2007.  BioQuest successfully raised a private round of financing for AIM Therapeutics in the Fall of 2007 to support this development program.

For more information about this program, please contact us.

Another very attractive drug development program under management involves a peptide, AIM-501, licensed from the University of Western Ontario, which is being targeted as a potential therapy for both cardiovascular disorders and Type 1 Diabetes. AIM-501 is currently undergoing animal validation studies in diabetes, and preliminary work has been completed in an animal model of cardiovascular disease. This program is also being managed for AIM Therapeutics Inc., and BioQuest plans to initiate further validation studies in cardiovascular disorders during the year. For more information on this program, please contact us.

BioQuest is also managing three exciting discovery and development programs for Cascade Therapeutics, including two first-in-class and one fast-follower program.  The first-in-class programs include a series of aryl-amide compounds for the treatment of epilepsy, anxiety and pain, and a series of 5-HT2A antagonist/GlyT1 inhibitor dual activity compounds for multiple CNS disorders.  The fast-follower program involves a 5-HT2C agonist therapeutic for the treatment of obesity. BioQuest is working very closely with Cascade’s management to advance one lead from each of the aryl-amide and 5-HT2C series into pre-clinical development by the second and fourth quarters of 2009 respectively.  BioQuest is also charged with managing the patent portfolios for all of the Cascade compounds. For more information about any of the Cascade programs, please contact us.

Additionally, BioQuest is managing two first-in-class programs for Envoy Pharmaceuticals.  The Envoy programs involve several series of distinct positive allosteric modulators (PAM) of the GLP-1 and GLP-2 receptors for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders and diabetes.  BioQuest is working closely with Envoy management to design and manage lead optimization studies with the goal of nominating a lead candidate for pre-clinical development in the first half of 2008.For more information about the Envoy programs, please contact us.

The BioQuest business model can help accelerate value creation for many biotech discoveries and medical innovations including the development of pharmaceuticals, medical devices and diagnostic tools, particularly at the pre-clinical or proto-type stages of development.  To find out if BioQuest can assist you, or for more information about any of our current programs, please contact us.
